Position title: Preschool Literacy Tutor – Minnesota Reading Corps

Would you love to help children grow their reading skills, succeed in school and get extra support? If your answer is yes, you can be trained to serve as a tutor with Minnesota Reading Corps at Kasson-Mantorville Community Education.   Whether you want to explore an educational career, reenter the workforce, or give back to your community, you can succeed as a tutor. Last year, Minnesota Reading Corps provided direct services to over 30,000 children in more than 700 schools across the state.

As a Literacy Tutor, you’ll use strategies that help students believe in themselves and succeed. Position available: Preschool (School Readiness) Literacy Tutor. This position will be full time, and tutors typically serve most of their hours during the regular school day.

In addition to extensive training, tutors will receive on-site support from specially trained school mentors.  Tutors come from many backgrounds and include recent high school and college grads, career changers, stay-at-home parents, and retirees.  Tutors may earn a living allowance, educational award, federal student loan forbearance, and other benefits, and have the chance to make a real difference in the life of a child.

What is a Rain Garden?

A rain garden is a depression in the landscape that is planted like a garden, collects rainwater runoff, and allows it to infiltrate back into the soil.  This presentation is FREE to anyone interested in learning about the benefits of a rain garden, a basic design, and where to look for additional professional assistance if needed.

Jim Hruska is dedicated to helping residents clean, protect, and enjoy the lakes, rivers and wetlands within the Zumbro River Watershed.  Come learn about the importance of our two precious resources, soil and water.

Last chance to sign up for 60 TIPS IN 60 MINUTES USING WORD®!

Think you know Word 2007®, 2010® or 2013®?

This is a fast paced class with at least a “tip a minute” using shortcuts, and tricks most did not know existed in Word!

You can bring your Laptop; however, there will be very little time to make adjustments on your computer as the pace is very fast. More “show and tell” than “doing”. If one needs more doing and learning, the best class to take would be the 3 session INTRODUCTION TO WORD® class. (BYOLT)
